Meadow, What Meadow?

“INDIVIDUAL LOTS SURROUNDED BY A COMMON GREEN. PICNIC OR PLAY IN THE MEADOW. ENJOY WONDERFUL VIEWS, STROLL OR BIKE ON THE TRAILS THROUGH 50 ACRES OF COMMON AND PROTECTED WOODLAND SURROUNDING YOUR HOME.”

Common green? If they mean, the houses are in the woods, and they have that in common, that could be correct. But if they are talking about a sweet meadowed “green,” they have to be kidding! There isn’t any “common green” left.

There isn’t any meadow left to speak of. (See photo.) What was 7 acres of meadow is now gravel road, driveways, parking for bikers and hikers, and to cap off that last little bit of meadow — a 225-foot long septic mound! The lighter color (it's hay covering the bulldozing over the future mound) "grass" will be completely covered with the septic mound. From the left turn road almost to the trees in the far back -- one very long, large mound of gravel, dirt, and grass. That was the meadow for picnics and gatherings.

That’s right-- the owners’ poop and pee percolating through a monstrous long 225-foot by 20-some foot wide, up to 6-foot high, septic mound. It will be the very first thing you see when you crest the hill to the “meadow.” Because that is what is filling the remainder of the former meadow.

Some of the description of the lots for sale described the “easy 15-minute stroll into town.” That “stroll” is along single-track mountain bike trails – over ledge, through a hemlock swamp, on narrow hiking/biking trails. It isn’t the least bit a “15-minute stroll” anywhere. The topography of the land is a drop from about 1150 feet above sea level down to 500 feet – with quite a few ups and downs over the series of ledges, through creeks, drainage and swamps in between. Not to mention crossing the Mad River itself before you get to town. Hiking shoes are almost mandatory if you don’t want to hurt yourself.

Imagine dragging your groceries up that little trek? Not!
